   Governance

UCW is a wholly owned division of LearningWise Inc. The LearningWise Board of Directors governs all non-academic matters. The University has an Academic Council to govern academic matters. This Council is responsible for developing, adopting and changing academic policies or procedures, as set out in our Academic Council Handbook.

UCW Academic Council: Our Academic Council is made up of fifteen voting members. Five are external members, three are senior administrators including UCW’s President, three are elected from full-time faculty, two are from the student body, one is from full-time non-faculty employees, and one from our Alumni. As the University grows, the number of members on this council may also grow.

Governance Committees: UCW’s President and the Chair of the Academic Council co-chair a Governance Committee that provides an ongoing review of Council operations.

The President also chairs an Executive Committee that handles the day-to-day administration of the University. The Executive Committee includes Vice-Presidents and other University Administrators as appropriate.

Standing Committees
UCW has several standing committees that make recommendations to the Academic Council for approval. They include:

Curriculum Committee: Chaired by our VP Academic.
Finance and Facilities Committees: Chaired by our VP Finance and Operations.
Advancement Committee: Chaired by our VP Student Services.
Appeals Committee: Chaired by a Faculty Member of Council.
Ad Hoc Committees: These committees will be established from time to time as they are needed, and will be chaired as appropriate. Committees may be established to deal with:
• Standards for admission and promotion
• Conditions for examinations, and grading policies
• Granting of degrees (or determining that degree requirements have been fulfilled)
• Establishing Fellowships, scholarships, bursaries and prizes;
• Hiring teaching and administrative staff
• Making rules for the management and conduct of the library
• Preparing and publishing the university calendar
• Setting rules about how results of examinations are reported
• Deciding how UCW can best to affiliate itself with other post-secondary institutions.
