WELCOME TO UNIVERSITY CANADA WEST
University
Canada West (UCW) has a new vision for university education. As
the first private sector, university established under new British
Columbia legislation, we envision a university where every student
succeeds – in class, and in the real world after graduation.
We believe that the Canada-wide entry requirement
of a 65% average is a valid indicator of a student’s ability
to complete an undergraduate degree. That’s why we accept
you when you apply, if you’re qualified – and don’t
make you wait to be nudged out by someone with a higher average.
If you graduate from high school with a minimum 65% average, and
are motivated by a desire to learn, you are accepted. It’s
that simple.
We also believe that the knowledge and skills gained
through life’s challenges and experiences have value. That’s
why we provide “prior learning assessment” opportunities
for those who may not satisfy more traditional university entrance
requirements.
We believe that the goal of a successful university
education is a successful life. That’s why all our programs
are designed to be focused and practical. They are also based on
a three-month term system. Three terms of study a year allow students
to complete an undergraduate degree – with the same number
of courses as required at other universities – in just two
and one half years.
Our MBA programs are equally creative, with three
options that let students graduate in one year or two.
Although our approach to university education is new,
it is based on the same stringent standards as found in Canada’s
other universities. Our Authority to grant degrees comes from the
British Columbia Minister of Advanced Education. Our academic programs
are assessed and monitored by the Minister’s Degree Quality
Assessment Board, and we have our own internal programs of course,
teaching, and degree assessments, to ensure that they meet rigorous
standards of quality and excellence. Our professors are devoted
to teaching and to every student’s success.
Please browse our website for details, and I look
forward to seeing you at UCW.
Sincerely,
David Strong
