Garrett Lambert, BA
Since 1997, Garrett Lambert has been a Professor in the MBA program (courses in Government-Business Interaction and Globalization) at the University of Victoria and is Advisor to the President on Government Relations. He is also President of GLI Associates Inc (see below), and has served as a Director on several corporate boards. In addition to public lectures and speeches on international issues, he has written extensively on Asian affairs. He is an Associate of the Centre for Asia Pacific Initiatives, a member of the Pacific Council on Economic Policy, and was a member of the Prime Minister’s Expert Panel on Canada’s Role in International Science and Technology, and the “Directions III Panel, Innovative Thinking on the Future of the Canadian Health Care System”.

Until 1997, Mr. Lambert was one of Canada’s highest-ranking diplomats and public servants. His ambassadorial appointments included Hong Kong during its return to China (1994-97); Malaysia (1988-90); and Nigeria and Sierra Leone (1982-85). Earlier, he served as Commercial Counselor in Poland and East Germany (1975-78); West Germany (1971-74); and Iran (1969-71).

In Canada, Mr. Lambert held the positions of Assistant Deputy Minister for Corporate Management and Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (1990-94). He was Director General for Trade and Investment with the USA during the establishment of the Free Trade Agreement (1985-88). As Director General at the Canadian International Development Agency, he established and developed the successful Industrial Co-operation Program (1978-82). He originally moved to Ottawa as Special Assistant to the Minister of National Defense (1966-68) after working in the private sector in Toronto.

Mr. Lambert graduated in Economics from the University of Toronto, and subsequently received diplomas from the Goethe Institute in Germany, and from Dalhousie University (Advanced Management), and is certified by the Ontario Securities Commission. Mr. Lambert founded GLI Associates Inc in 1997 as a network of professionals across Canada who provide advice and services to a growing roster of companies, institutes, and governments.
