William W. (Bill) Winspear
Mr. Winspear, a native Albertan, is a graduate of the University of Alberta (BCom) and the Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA). He was C.E.O. of TPL Industries in Vancouver from 1965-1970, of Lake Ontario Steel from 1970-1975, of Chaparral Steel in Dallas, Texas, from 1975-1982 and of Associated Materials Incorporated, also of Dallas, to the present. During the process he worked his way up the ownership ladder to the point where he is majority owner of Associated Materials. A.M.I., a company with annual sales slightly in excess of US$500 million. Although he and his wife Margot reside in Dallas, they have a summer home near Sidney, B.C. where their whole family gathers every summer. In recognition of their support of the performing arts, particularly Opera and Symphony and in arts education, Bill has received an Honorary Doctorate in Performing Arts.
