University Canada West (UCW) is the first private sector corporate university established under new BC legislation. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, UCW is an innovative milestone in BC’s education, opening new learning opportunities, and building Victoria’s reputation in international education.

UCW’s Official Opening Ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 27th at 10 AM, 2005. The Honorable Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education will be the special speaker. He and Dr. David Strong, President UCW, will unveil the Official Commemoration plaque.

Media representatives are invited to attend the opening, which includes comments from The Hon. Murray Coell, Rob Fleming, MLA Victoria - Hillside, and Alan Lowe, Mayor City of Victoria, as well as a UCW Undergraduate and a Graduate student. Welcoming remarks from Dr Myer Horowitz, President Emeritus, University of Alberta, and Chair of the UCW Academic Council, and Dr. David Strong will open the event.

Dr. Rick Roskin, Vice President Academic, and Acting Dean of Business will announce the name of each participant in our first class undergraduate and graduate programs.

Other community leaders, educators and friends of UCW will attend the Official Opening. A reception will follow in the main foyer and a Press Conference will be held at 11:30 in Room 1014
