Sage Hills and University Canada West Announce Partnership for
Main Campus in the Comox Valley

Letter from Hon. Murray Coell, Minister Advanced Education
Province of British Columbia

Victoria, B.C. – Sage Hills, a proposed 2,040 acre project in the Comox Valley, being developed by IAC-Independent Academies Canada Inc. (IAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LearningWise Inc. (LINC). The Memorandum outlines the details of a formal agreement, expected by January 2006, which will see LINC operate its University Canada West (UCW), as well as a private school (Kindergarten to Grade 12) at Sage Hills.

UCW, Canada’s first self-funded University, authorized by the Province of British Columbia’s Minister of Advanced Education, opened their Victoria campus on September 26, and offers degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. “We believe that the Comox Valley is a prime location for a private university and while we continue to grow into the full capacity of our Kings Road campus, we are excited that Sage Hills will be the future home of our main campus,” said Dr. David Strong, Chairman of LINC and President of UCW.

“We are extremely excited about the partnership with UCW”, states Ted Everett, President and CEO of IAC. “We planned to have a private university as a focal point of the project, and now we have the best possible partners to undertake this bold initiative.” Mr. Everett went on to say that almost 500 acres has been allocated for educational facilities at Sage Hills.

"This campus represents an excellent economic opportunity for the Comox Valley. It will attract students to the region who will contribute to the local economy while they live here," said MLA Stan Hagen, Comox Valley. The institution will require support workers, which creates employment opportunities for those in the Valley."

Along with the educational components, Sage Hills is proposing a sports academy for professional and Olympic sports, two golf courses, and related residential and commercial development. Sage Hills was announced in April of this year and has completed feasibility studies on the property.
