Georgian College business program students, alumni, College staff, and an ever growing number of people in business who need a degree to reach their goals, have two things in common…they’re busy people and they want to earn their degrees quickly.
University Canada West President Dr. David F. Strong and a team of internationally respected educators and business leaders have created a unique university experience designed to ladder College Diploma graduates their BCOM in one year and a MBA in one additional year.
Strong’s team includes the past Chancellor of the University of Alberta Dr. Myer Horowitz and Sir Peter North. Dr Horowitz currently serves as UCW’s Chancellor and Chair of its Academic Council. Sir Peter North is The Principal of Jesus College, Oxford. Sir Peter is also a former Vice Chancellor of Oxford University. He also serves on the UCW Academic Council.
“We’ve created an education experience that is many ways, quite different than what most universities offer.” says Strong.
Built around a unique learning experience, the UCW team has created finishfaster.
finishfaster features three key components: Get the help you need to succeed. Teaching staff with experience in business. A course structure that gets students into the marketplace faster.
UCW, students are not subject to lecture; rather they are engaged in thought provoking discussion with their professors, learning coaches and program assistants.
UCW’s class sizes are small, staff is exceptional and courses deal with current, real-world issues.
In addition, since UCW focuses on business degrees, staff has been carefully chosen for their success as both teachers and in the business world.
UCW students can graduate faster because of the University’s unique term rather than semester system
University Canada West, in partnership with Georgian College, offers a Degree Completion program that moves a Georgian College graduate to a degree in one year at the Victoria, B.C. Campus, or for those who need to stay close to home, in two years on-line. In one additional year they can earn an MBA on-line or on-campus.
Georgian and many other Ontario Colleges have signed articulation agreements with University Canada West. The agreements with UCW represent a significant development for many Ontario students who are looking for fair and reasonable transfer opportunities to university.
Rezza (students family names are protected) one of UCW’s international MBA students says, “Choosing University Canada West to complete my MBA was in itself a good business decision. I already run my own business and so, I was credited with having some business knowledge towards my degree.”
In fact, UCW’s greatest advocates are its students. Their video stories can be seen at: www.finishfaster.ca
Another unique feature of UCW’s learning experience is the university’s Student Concierge. Teresa Wharf’s job is to ensure that the UCW experience of every student, from initial enquiry to graduation day is outstanding.
In 2002 David Strong the former Chancellor of The University of Victoria, brought together a group of respected academics, business people and outstanding individuals from Canada and around the world, to form Learning Wise Incorporated. University Canada West is a wholly owned division of LearningWise Inc.
On August 9, 2004, University Canada West received Authority to operate under the B.C. Degree Authorization Act and we have received approval for the delivery of four BA degrees, a BCom degree, and an MBA degree.
Such approval is based upon rigorous review by eminent academics from established universities including UBC, SFU, UVic, UNBC, U. Alberta and U. Calgary. All degrees were strongly endorsed. We have a number of new degree applications in preparation.
UCW’s founders have built a multi-layered governance structure that ensures the long term viability and success of the institution and its academic programs.
