IDC Challenge honorable mention for UCW student
Louise Taylor, a UCW business student received an honorable mention and a $500.00 cash prize at this year's IDC (Innovation and Development Corporation) Challenge for her business plan in the "New Venture" category, which is open to student entrepreneurs looking to commercialize their ideas by starting a company or exploring other paths to bring the idea to the market.
Undergraduate, Graduate, and grade 11 and 12 high school students from across Vancouver Island participated in the IDC Challenge to prove the viability of their ideas.
"Pogo", Louise's entrepreneurial endeavor for the competition empowers the average web-surfer to visit third-party web sites and "mark-up" or share comments with others, all without having to have administrative access to the web site itself. Pogo is enabled by a hosted service that is activated when the end-user installs the Pogo plug-in that works with most popular Web Browsers in use today. The Pogo plug-in gives users a platform and a voice with unprecedented interactivity that enables focused feedback on a topic, company, person, product, issue, etc. without ever leaving the web page they are on.
"For the first year that our University has been a sponsor of this event, we've created a buzz that puts the other Universities on notice - UCW will be an ongoing driving force in this competition. The opportunity to meet with and present to leaders on Vancouver Island is invaluable and great exposure for your idea or new business."
