At UCW, we understand parents’ interest in the
choices their young adult children make. We encourage parents and
guardians to visit our campus, inquire about our programs and services,
and explore the many ways UCW provides students with the best possible
educational experience. If you have any other questions, please do
not hesitate to contact us at (250) 978-1800 or email us at .
Do you have an orientation to UCW and the city of Victoria?
Yes. Each year, at the beginning of the fall quarter we have what
we call a ‘Fast Learning Orientation’. Its goal is to
reinforce the learning culture and process at UCW, to help students
understand how the university works and how to get technical or personal
help if they need it. We also give students an opportunity to familiarize
themselves with Victoria, Quadra Village and the many amenities available
in the community.
What can you tell me about accommodations at UCW?
UCW does not have on-campus accommodation at this time. Students are
encouraged to seek residential accommodation in the community prior
to arriving in Victoria. The rental market in Victoria is very competitive
and students should arrange for more than one place to see, as rentals
tend to be booked very quickly after they are advertised. Please visit
the University Canada West online housing database for local accommodations.
A Homestay option is available to International students.
Do you have scholarships, awards, bursaries or financial
aid available?
University Canada West will be offering a variety of scholarships
and bursaries to qualified students. UCW students will also be eligible
for awards offered by other organizations. Contact the Registrar’s
Office for more information.
Do you have any services that offer career advice to students?
UCW will assist students with career counseling and potential job
opportunities in an integrated fashion using both internal and external
resources.
Do you have an Academic Advising service available for my
son/daughter?
Each Faculty provides academic advising for students contemplating
studies at UCW. Contact the Dean’s Office for assistance.
What computer services does my child have access to?
UCW is a wireless campus. We encourage students to purchase their
own laptops to use in class and between classes. A computer lab with
both PC and Mac computers is available to students as class schedules
permit.
What is the average class size at UCW?
Class size will never exceed 50 students, and will be divided into
five to six student Learning Teams. Face-to-face environments will
provide opportunities for students to apply learning skills and time-management
strategies to their courses their your life.
Can my son/daughter work while attending UCW?
Part-time employment is often available in the community. Undergraduate
students will attend classes during the daytime but have the opportunity
to work in the evenings and on weekends. Students can get help with
job referrals by contacting the Student Services Office upon arrival.
What type of transportation is available for UCW students?
UCW is located in the heart of Victoria and is accessible to all major
public transportation routes.
