   Housing & Homestay

Although there is no on-campus housing at University Canada West, we can help you find a place to live in Victoria. Most of our students live in rental accommodation - apartments, houses, or rooms. Because Victoria is a "college town" with three universities, there are often opportunities to share apartments or houses with other students.

The rental market in Victoria is very competitive and you should line up more than one place to see, as units tend to be rented very quickly after they are advertised.

University Canada West is located in Quadra Village, close to the heart of downtown Victoria (see our Maps & Directions page for our exact location). There are options for rental accommodation in this area and in other areas of Victoria. The city has an efficient, reliable public transit system, so you can easily get to UCW from almost any part of Victoria.

Off-Campus Housing Registry
We have developed a searchable database with local rental listings to help you find an affordable, convenient place to live. Our Off-Campus Housing Registry provides a list of dozens of apartments, rooms and houses for rent in and around Victoria, and includes rental rates, accommodation details and contact information for landlords.

Homestay
If you are an international student, you can apply to live with a Canadian family, through the Homestay program.

Homestay is a wonderful way for you to improve your English, learn more about Canadian culture and meet new people. A Homestay family provides much more than an inexpensive option for room and board. You will also have a private, furnished room (with a desk for studying), and three meals a day. Your host family provides a warm and caring environment for you, including you in activities on a regular basis, introducing you to your new community and helping you learn about Canadian culture. The homestay application fee is $230 per placement and the first month's fee of $740 (CDN) is due when you register. Please note that homestay placement is a very time consuming process and requires that we receive your application six weeks prior to your arrival date. Beyond the first month, homestay fees can be paid each month.
